The Nymph’s Grove in Wentzells Lake
This photo was taken while out on an excursion with the Bluenose Coastal Action Foundation. The Foundation is working hard to prevent invasive species, in this case chain pickerel, from destroying the local flora and fauna of the lake. I was struck by the tranquility of the environment and these plants reminded me of the John William Waterhouse painting "Hylas and the Nymphs". I could almost imagine a water nymph--in Greek mythology, a female figure who protected fresh water sources--emerging from this grove and thanking us for keeping her home safe.
